How can we think about sustainable costume productions in theater? And what qualities do alternative bio-materials offer that change under heat/humidity? What interactions result from this in the design and conception of performances and stagings? In this two-part workshop we will focus on soft bio-textiles. Mixing theoretical inputs and practical production processes, we will deal with topics such as sustainable material cycles in the field of costume design, self-production of bio-based materials and their testing in the form of performative exercises. In an experimental combination of teaching and craft, transdisciplinary teams of students and tailors/garment masters from the theater scene work together to facilitate a practical hands-on knowledge transfer.
