From the very beginning I was fascinated by material which were found in nature and even all around us on a daily base. During this curious exploration time I was observing and learning a lot about them, until I started to internalize myself with metal and its natural oxidation processes.
Now I realize that it’s not only metal and its oxidations, qualities and colours but biological processes in general. At that moment began the journey of discovery that has yet no end, which involves sustainable architecture, the use of cultivated biological substances and the idea of materials as part of a conscious circulation in general. Not ignoring my own level of responsibility for this world I turned my workshop into a laboratory where I try to find out ways to build sculptures with biobased, recycled or cultivated components.
In the beginning of 2021, I was searching for a new textile made of orange waste. Inspired by the first sunlight I had a bright orange striped awning in mind, and I knew, I’ll need a lot of oranges and a big place to let the leather dry. After a few phone calls and a lot of cycling I had mountains of half squeezed oranges in the kitchen. I built frames out of reclaimed wood that had to be the right size to fit in the oven of a bakery and at the same time, after the drying process, to be constructive elements of the awning made of orange leather. There it has been: My „Saftladen“ made of orange waste, used materials and unused energy.
During my time of study, I have observed that what is already a major subject of research in architecture and design is still missing (or very little explored) in fine arts. For that reason, I would like to make art aware of scientific and natural developments to work with nature as a whole and not against it.
